

Barry Kashambo
Regional Director, ICAO Eastern and Southern African (ESAF) Office
Mr. Barry Kashambo has served as ICAO ESAF Regional Director since March 2015 and has international civil aviation experience of almost 40 years with a background in Aircraft Maintenance Engineering, State oversight systems specifically Airworthiness and Accident investigation and Safety management.
He worked with the Civil Aviation Authority Uganda as an Airworthiness surveyor and Accident Investigator for a period of 21 years (1988-2009) and served as an Aviation safety officer for UN MONUSCO (2009-2012) performing oversight activities for the fleet's biggest UN mission fleet at the time before East African Community- Civil Aviation Safety and Security Agency, (CASSOA) as the Executive Director from 2012-2015.
Barry joined ESAF in 2012 as Regional Director for the Eastern and Southern African Region Office in Nairobi where together with his competent team they have successfully steered the support and development of aviation at national and regional levels. Mr. Kashambo is committed to elevating the effective implementation of safety and security oversight systems in Africa and systematic compliance with ICAO standards and recommended practices. His passion for technological advancements and innovation has been commended at several international forums, especially with the introduction of Unmanned Aircraft Systems in the Region. He was instrumental in the ICAO/UN-Habitat study on harnessing airport and cities development that prompted the need for formulation of global guidelines for airport and Aerotropolis development.
Mr. Kashambo holds an Aviation Safety Management Master’s Degree from City University London among other qualifications, and is a member of the International Society of Safety Investigators.
